When a global moving pattern is superimposed on high-contrast stationary or slowly moving stimuli, the latter disappear and reappear alternately for periods of several seconds. We show that this motion-induced blindness (MIB) phenomenon is unlikely to reflect retinal suppression, sensory masking or adaptation.

Motion Induced Blindness (MIB) is a phenomenon of "visual disappearance" in which salient visual stimuli disappear as if erased in front of the observers eyes. 2011-07-18 ‘Time Blindness’ and ADHD: What to Know and How to Deal With It . I am honestly so excited to write this post because it’s something I have dealt with my entire life, but I’ve never had the vocabulary to describe, and I think I might have a lot of followers in the same situation.

Through a hybrid hypothesis-driven and data-driven analysis approach, we found that the MIB illusion increased with more ADH traits, decreased with time-on-task, and was stronger for left and lower quadrants. This is captively called “motion induced blindness” or MIB. Abstract Motion-induced blindness (MIB) is a visual phenomenon in which a salient static target spontaneously fluctuates in and out of visual awareness when surrounded by a moving mask pattern. It has been hypothesized that MIB reflects an antagonistic interplay between cortical representations of the static target and moving mask. Motion induced blindness illusions use apparent background motion to make static portions of the visual field temporarily disappear from view. They produce an effect that seems similar to the blind spot in the eye, or the disappearance of images in Cheshire cat illusions, but which apparently has a different cause.
